Philippe Lemaigre is born in Visé (Belgium) in 1950.
Attracted by painting and music, he chooses definitively music at age of 10. Until 1967 he takes private lessons in harmony, counterpoint and musical analyze with Félix Mahieu. From 1964 to 1967 he takes lessons with Jacques Leduc at the 'Académie César Franck' . At 17, at the Conservatory of Liège, Philippe Lemaigre decides rapidly to defend the guitar literature of the 19th century, as well as contemporary. He obtains with the honor his 1st Prize in Guitar in 1971 and, one year later, his 1st Prize in Chamber Music. From 1973 to 1976 he takes part in many courses with Alirio Diaz, Cacho Tirao, Janine Rubinlich, James Tyler, Julian Bream. In 1976, at the Carrefour Mondial de la Guitare (Martinique), he studies with Alberto Ponce (Spain) for interpretation and Leo Brouwer (Cuba) for composition. His contacts with the University of Liège bring Philippe Lemaigre to be interested in old music and particularly in Elizabethan Music: as a lute player he performs with the ensemble 'Musica Aurea' directed by Jérôme Lejeune. Long period of production, investigation and research in that field (1971-1978). The virtuoso From 1972, his guitar concerts make Philippe Lemaigre known in England, Germany, Danemark, Holland and France. Since then, as a soloist, he participates in many important festivals such as Bratislava, Arcachon, Como, Brest, Paris, London as well as 'Carrefour Mondial de la Guitare à Fort de France', invited by Léo Brouwer. In Belgium, he performed several times at the 'Festival de Stavelot', 'Festival d'Eté Mosan', 'Festival de guitare de Liège', 'Concerts de Midi', 'Festival des Nuits de Septembre', 'Festival du Namurois', 'Festival des Flandres', 'Festival d'Olne','les Concerts Astoria', 'Vlees Huis', etc... In 1983, he plays and records the Concerto by Villa-Lobos with the orchestra of Liège, directed by Pierre Bartholomée and the same year with the orchestra of R.T.B.F., directed by Brian Priestman (England).
